Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man
The Church of England is considering legal action against entertainment firm Sony for featuring Manchester Cathedral in a violent PlayStation video game. The Church says Sony did not obtain permission to use the interior in the war game Resistance: Fall of Man. The game, which has sold more than one million copies, shows a virtual shoot-out in the cathedral's nave in which hundreds of enemies are killed.
Okay genius, two minor…just minor flaws in this. Did I mention minor? I think I mentioned minor. Good. Okay, listening clear? According to the church guy in the report he’s angry that the game lets players “kill people” in the church.
But… Resistance: Fall of Man is about killing aliens…
The other rather suspicious flaw in this report is the shocking fact that this game has actually been in players hands since November last year. And only now do you want a ban on the sell of the game?
The other problem with this report is the fact the Cathedral has been re-created with shocking accuracy. Sony couldn’t just pull that out their ass, they would have had to go to the Cathedral to record it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked for permission at the same time.
Finally, this is a bloody video game. It’s not real. A digital recreation does not affect your holy place in much the same way me fouling on one of your postcards doesn’t. It does not affect you. You clearly don’t understand the game if you think it involves killing people in your church and you should leave it alone.
Jesus Christ…
